I’ve never decorated for Valentine’s Day. It’s usually one of those holidays that comes and goes without much decor change-up in our home but this year I thought it would be fun do a little Valentine’s Day mantel!
What do you use when you’re decorating for the most romantic holidays of them all? Roses, of course! Now don’t get be wrong, I love my neutrals but I thought it would be fun to bring a little depth and color to this mantel by buying some fresh roses at our local grocery store.
A new trick I thought would be cute? I cut the stems down on some of the roses and placed them into some vintage candlesticks. I even added a wee bit of water in the hole so that these cuties last a little while longer. Sometimes I like playing around with decor and getting creative. It’s fun to play and switch it up from time to time. This is totally an idea that could be used year-round with different types of flowers!
As a backdrop, I used these antique pine shutters that I found at an antique mall last weekend. I loved the raw wood and the precious little white knob…it’s the little things! Next, I kept layering for the backdrop using a vintage rectangular beveled mirror and romantic white/gold frame. I love how the layering of these pieces adds dimension as opposed to being flat against the wall.
The new piece that stole the show? This white chippy antique lamp (it working condition, nonetheless!) I found this on Etsy and just loved the quirky and unique vibe. Ahhh, how I wish this lamp could talk…
To top it off, I draped this beautiful handmade heart garland on the front of the mantel. It was made using all antique/vintage materials and I am just in love with the different neutral colors and sizes of the hearts. Suddenly, I want these all over my house.
With the leftover roses, I placed them into a vase on a little stand next to our mantel and that was it! Nothing too fancy but I do have to admit, it does make me smile walking by this mantel in the mornings.
Thank you all so much for being here and checking out this Valentine’s Day mantel! This little space is getting me a bit more excited for the holiday and being able to spend time with my main squeeze. To see more ways I add Valentine’s Day touches to our home, check out this post! Until next time.
