I’m always in for a fun DIY project! There’s something about picking up a paint brush getting lost in a project that really makes my heart smile.
A few weeks ago, I stumbled into this antique book full of lots of botanical prints. I probably stood there in the antique store and got lost in the pages for a solid ten minutes. I’m pretty darn sure the antique shop owner was giggling, but hey, what can I say!? 😆 I was just so absorbed in the pretty drawings and vintage pages and really wanted to find a way for the beauty to be displayed!
My original thought was to frame some of the pages to create some type of gallery wall but since the pages were all the same size (obviously, Sarah…😉) I knew that a gallery wall with lots of frames the same size might not look just right. What did I do? Shop my basement.
I really try to only bring items into our home that I love or that have specail meaning. There are some pieces that I have accumulated over the years (okay, maybe more than a few…🤦🏻♀️) that I just LOVE, but I don’t have a purpose for right now. This little wooden sign was one of them.
It had originally been a sign that said, “farmhouse” but since I had used this for so many years, I was just growing a bit tired of it. Just keeping it really, real. I loved the little wooden frame and decided to keep it for something in the future. It’s a good thing I did because it made for the perfect backdrop for this DIY!
I went ahead and slapped on some white paint over the lettering and allowed that to dry. After picking out the pages of the book that I wanted to display, I carefully tore out each page and lined them up in a straight line on my wooden sign.
I slathered on some mod-podge onto the back of each page and allowed each piece to dry to the board. I used a little paint brush at this point to go over the outer edges of the front of each page so that the corners would fray or turn up over time. After smoothing over each page with my hand and giving it a few hours to dry, my DIY botanical sign is complete!
I thought this sign fit perfectly on this little wall next to our kitchen cabinets. The contrast of the dark frame against our light grey walls looks so cute! This was SUCH an easy DIY and cost me next to nothing to create. I highly suggest shopping your basement for pieces when it comes to DIY projects. There are so many different ways to use things if you’re willing to get creative!
I hope that this inspires you to have fun with DIY projects, shop your home and never ever underestimate the power of an old tattered book collecting dust at an antique store. ❤️
Love you all!! Thanks so much and checking in on my latest DIY project. Share your pics if you decide to try this for yourself!
