I get asked all of the time what to look for while antiquing. I know first hand just how overwhelming antique stores can be, especially in the ones that are jam-packed with hidden treasures! I thought it may be helpful to share one thing that I’m always looking for one my antiquing adventures.
Most of the time, antiquing is one of those things that I like to do without a specific plan. One of my favorite parts of antiquing is browsing and seeing what speaks to me. I have learned a few tips and tricks over the years that have made my antiquing ventures more productive and today I want to share one of those tricks with you!
Okay, are you ready? Collections. Now this may sound crazy and a little overwhelming but stick with me here. I’ve found that purchasing a few of the same thing brings a cohesiveness to your home and you usually get multiples at a cheaper price. It’s a win-win.
You can see in the photos how using more than one item adds interest. Instead of plopping a rolling pin in a crock, use three. Instead of displaying one antique pin-cushion, use two. Instead of stacking one saucer, stack six. It’s more attractive to the eye.
The best part about this strategy? You usually get a WAY better deal. I bought this little jar of wooden spoons for $8. The antique store was anxious to sell them all and I got a heck of a deal and now have a cute little wooden spoon collection as opposed to one that I wouldn’t know how to style.
Little things like these are easier to buy in bulk than they are to collect over time. I purchased this set of vintage glasses for $10. I loved the shape and since there is a collection of them, they look really cute styled or stacked on the hutch in our dining room.
This is just one antiquing hack that I’ve learned and I hope it’s helpful in making your treasure-hunting a little less stressful! Let me know if this is something that was of use to you and I can continue making posts like this to help share what I’ve learned. Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today!

I love the paint color choice(s) you made for the walls and cabinets in the kitchen on your blog about antiquing. Do you mind sharing that information?
Thank you!!

Hi Debra! The cabinets came prepainted with our home, so I am unsure of that color. Our walls are painted “Mission White” by Behr. I hope that helps 🙂
