Let me start off by saying, curtains were never too high on my priority list until recently. In our apartment we had plain old white curtains that I purchased years ago in college. They were sufficient at the time. In our house, we have lots a big windows that we may not be able to get blinds for right away (who knew blinds were a small fortune…not me!) That being said, I wanted to focus on getting some affordable curtains for around our home that will get us through and look cute. I decided to try out drop cloth curtains and I’m so happy with the result!
If you want to get this look for your home, you will need one medium-duty 9×12 drop cloth. You can get heavy or light-duty if you want a different look to your curtains. Totally your preference! I liked that the medium-duty drop cloth gave the curtains some structure without being too stiff. I also picked up these curtain clips to secure the curtains to the rod.
Before moving ahead to the fun part, I suggest washing/drying your drop cloth and using some scent booster if you have it handy. Once they are washed and dried, cut the drop cloth in half vertically.
Next, fold the top of the drop cloth down about 18 inches (can be shorter/longer..again, personal preference here). I like the curtains to be just grazing the floor. Depending on your curtain rod height, you may need to make the fold longer or shorter. After you have the drop cloth folded where you want it, simply attach the curtain clips.
Since I’m no seamstress, it obviously isn’t perfect. When hanging them, I put the raw/cut edge on the outside of the windows and it’s almost impossible to tell unless you are inspecting them up close. You can sew the raw edge if you’re feeling ambitious! These are a great option for neutral home decor enthusiasts, like me, and pair amazingly with the french pipe curtain rod. We love these industrial curtain rods and have three in our home. To see what the pipe curtain rod looks like spray painted gold in our bedroom, check out this post!
Overall, I am happy with this project and how much structure the curtains give our living room. Let me know if you decide to try this DIY curtain project for yourself. It’s a great one to tackle as a beginner. Happy curtain-making!

I did the same thing for my windows after seeing how you went about it. Although I went ahead and hemmed each cut side as it was raveling so much. And I love to sew anyway.
I would send a couple pictures but I’m not sure how , but actually if I did, they would look like your photos.
Thank you for the inspiration!!!!
