I’m so so so excited to be sharing all of the details on the headboard in our master bedroom. It’s truly one of my favorites pieces in our home and makes a huge statement in the room. BUT it took a little (ok, maybe more than a little) brainstorming to get this headboard to look like what it does now.Prior to our move, our master bedroom furniture was the same furniture that I have had since I was fifteen. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it but I was in desperate desire of a change and something a little different. I knew that I wanted something really unique to use as a headboard. Since I am a major architectural salvage lover I tossed around the idea of old porch railings, mantels, you name it.Then I saw this stunner in the back of an Etsy listing. The piece itself wasn’t listed but I saw it in the background and just went out on a limb and messaged the seller to see if it was available. Low and behold, it was. The price was cheaper than a lot of headboards I saw online and this one was so unique that I just couldn’t pass it up. It was shipped within a week and I was antsy to get it mounted to our wall but it is around 100 lbs so this was no small task. In the meantime, I wanted to give it a fresh (but not too fresh) look. It arrived a little dingy/yellow from aging over time. I painted it with Old Barn Milk paint in the color “Sweet Cream”…a soft white that is oh so yummy! We had a few guys from Home Depot help us find a way that we could successfully mount this piece to our wall without being scared of a solid 100 lb hunk of wood knocking us out in our sleep. We used two screw-eyes in the back of the headboard and threaded some heavy duty cable through the screw-eyes. We placed two bolts into two studs in our wall and basically hung the architectural piece like a picture. The cable is able to hold up to 1,300 lb so we can rest assured that headboard isn’t going anywhere. It was quite the process to say the least. Thank goodness for a husband and a dad that put up with my crazy antics. It is just what I had in mind for so many years and I’m so excited to get some other furniture in here to go with it! I love giving pieces like these a new purpose. Who knows where this piece used to be or all that it has seen. The dreamer in me just loves thinking about that. I’m sure most would have tossed this beauty in the trash or ran it over with a bulldozer but now we have a one-of-a-kind headboard that can’t be replaced. Be still my heart.
