I have been on the hunt for quite some time for an authentic farmhouse bench for our master bedroom. Since our bed doesn’t have a footboard, I was really looking for something to add a little extra “oomph” to the end of our bed. I thought an antique bench would be perfect but I wanted to be sure it was sturdy enough for everyday use.I’m not sure if this is just us but it seems like no matter where we are living there tends to be either a chair or bench that serves as a “catch-all” for clothes, bags, hats and pillows. Does this mean we are lazy!? Please tell me someone out there has this catch-all bench too…😉
This weekend I discovered a new antique store that was two stories and packed to the brim with fun finds. I spotted this bench as soon as I took my first step upstairs and knew that it was meant to be. I made certain that it was sturdy and measured to be positive it’d fit at the end of our bed and it was perfect all around!
This bench had been painted a few times over the years. It was mostly a midnight blue color with a little bit of red paint peeking through. Could you have guessed I was going to paint it!? I knew right away that since this bench was made of authentic barn wood that milk paint would look beautiful on it. I had some paint leftover from when I painted our antique mantel and decided to use the same color so that the room would be a little more cohesive. I used the color Grainsack by Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. One of my all time favorites 💛
After cleaning it up with a bit of mild soap and water, I got right to painting. Two coats later and a little bit of distressing and this beauty is looking juuussstt right in our bedroom. 😍 I “pretty-d” it up for these photos but no worries, it has already become the catch-all that I knew it would. Laundry and pillows galore 🙌🏼
I always want to be sure that the pieces in our home are not only beautiful but functional as well. Our home needs to serve our lifestyle and I always try to keep that in mind while designing a space. Your home is able to be both beautiful and functional and I hope you all know this, too. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for following along on this journey of ours!
