The nursery projects are well underway here at our house! Since this space is an untouched room in our home, I really wanted to add some character to bring it to life. Sometimes in new homes, the “charm” of a space can be lacking so I got to brainstorming how we could achieve a more custom look. We tossed around the idea of horizontal shiplap (like here – in our living room), vertical shiplap (like here – in our laundry room) & board and batten. However, we decided on this beadboard wall accent DIY!
I’ve seen beadboard all over Pinterest (mostly in older homes) and have always loved the character that it adds to a room. I thought it would be cute to do a half wall of beadboard paneling and top it off with a simple modern trim. The modern trim brings a clean-lined fresh vibe that my heart loves!
We started out by purchasing this affordable beadboard paneling. The paneling comes in 96 inch long sheets. We only planned on adding beadboard halfway up the wall, therefore, we were able to have the Home Depot employees cut these in half. This saved us so much time and money!
We started by marking our wall studs and using a nail gun to attach the panels to the walls. At this point, we were able to patch the nail holes and caulk the seams to create a seamless look. To top it off, we added a coat of semi-gloss paint in the color Pure White by Sherwin Williams.
Our final step was to trim the top border of the beadboard. We chose these simple 11/32 inch x 2-1/4 inch x 84 inch trim pieces. Using a table saw, we decided to thin out the bottom of each header piece (on the backside). This step created a small overhang that hid any imperfections on the top of the beadboard paneling. At this point, we were able to affix them to our wall using a nail gun. After a bit more filling, caulking and painting – our beadboard wall accent DIY project was complete!
This project cost us a total of $300 and took about two weekends to complete. It was worth every penny & minute! I just love the custom charm it brought the space. If you’re looking for an easy and budget-friendly DIY project for a wall or room, look no further than beadboard.
