If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that my go-to concealer of two plus years is Tarte Shape Tape. I’ve hardly ever strayed away from it. Since sharing my favorite with you guys on IG, I’ve gotten a lot of messages recommending NARS concealer. I figured I’d test it out with a mini size to see how I liked it. I decided to make this a little concealer comparison by trialing each concealer under different eyes for two weeks. I love a good side-by-side review! Here’s what I found out…
First up – Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. Like I mentioned earlier, this has been my concealer of choice for years now. It has extremely full coverage so if you are someone that suffers from extreme under-eye darkness, it may be worth checking out. Shape Tape runs at $27 for a 0.33 oz (their full size option) container. I typically wear the shade 22N Light-Neutral. Personally, this one applies pretty thick. I find that I don’t need much to cover up basically any blemish on my face. The only downfall I think, is it can feel pretty dry on the skin. For me, I notice it doesn’t blend as well in the winter months when my skin is lacking it’s hydration. If you have dry skin, I wouldn’t go this route.
Next up – NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. This one is just as the name describes – Light, creamy & hydrating all at the same time. I find this one to be extremely build-able (aka: The more you use, the better the coverage). This would be great for those who don’t need a whole lot of coverage or people who tend to have drier skin. That reminds me – if you have skin on the oilier-side, I would stick with Shape Tape. I typically wear the shade “Madeleine” and it retails for $30 for 0.22 oz of product. A bit pricier per-ounce than the Tarte option.
After wearing Tarte under one eye & NARS under the other, I noticed that neither of them started to oxidize (or separate/sit on top of the skin). The Tarte Shape Tape did leave me with a bit of a crease after a full day of wear but the NARS one didn’t at all. I want to note – I do place a finish powder over all of my concealer to really lock it in which is key!
Overall, both are keepers in my book. I’m personally going to continue using both but at different times of the year. I will stick with the NARS concealer for a more hydrating option in fall/winter & switch off to Shape Tape in the spring/summer when my skin is naturally a bit more dewy and hydrated.
So for anyone out there wanting a little recap, here is what I would recommend based on your skin type:
Oily skin – Tarte Shape Tape Concealer
Dry skin – NARS Radient Creamy Concealer
Combo skin – Either one! Or switch on & off, like me
I hope this post was helpful if you’re in the market for a new concealer. I love testing out new beauty products and I hope that these little reviews can serve as a great honest opinion before purchasing!

I totally agree with you on both trials.. I’ve used Nars forever. It has some moisture yet it isn’t oily. It does have a bit of a sheen so it can hi-light puffiness. Tarte Shape Tape is new to me, and yes, it’s drying. A little goes a long way and it does cover a lot. I’m still not liking how dry to is and how it creases. Not good for my dry skin.
You did good comparing these two popular brands. Keep it up!

Thank you!! I really appreciate that feedback. It’s good to know we had similar thoughts on each product & that the review was pretty accurate. I think I will stick with NARS at least until summer rolls around 🙂
