Since starting my Instagram/blog last year, the number one question I’m asked is, “How do you keep all of the white in your house from getting dirty!?” Valid question. We have a puppy the size of a small horse. We live at a newly constructed home with barely any grass grown in yet (mud-galore). We live in the country. Dirt is bound to enter our home one way or another.
I could make things much easier on myself if I maybe wouldn’t have an off-white couch, white bedding or white cabinets. But, do you want the truth? I don’t care. Not in a rude way, just in an honest way! I love white so much because of the peacefulness it brings our home. Being surrounded it by it brings me a clear mind and a happy spirit. To me, the dirt is worth it.
I’ve found ways to keep our home looking fresh and I thought I would share in case you are a white-decor-lover, like me! First things first. Stock up on the magic erasers. I’m not sure what these are made of….magic, clearly. I use these on any hard surface that’s white in our home. Walls, trim, furniture you name it! I wipe down our kitchen cabinets with these about once a week. They’re pretty affordable and can get any dirty grime off in a pinch.
This one will probably come as no surprise: bleach! I bleach everything. Bedding, our couch covers, blankets, towels, curtains etc. I’d say the dirtiest of these is our couch cushion covers that get pretty dirty thanks to our muddy yard and Oakley. I toss these in the wash with a bit of bleach probably once every two weeks (or weekly if they’re really bad) and I’ve never had trouble getting a stain out. A little hint for ya: Buy the scented bleach so that you’re getting the clean fabric and fresh smell all-in-one.
My last little tip for ya? White paint. If you look in my garage at any given moment there’s always a few cans of white paint. Sometimes the magic eraser just isn’t enough so I decide to repaint a piece. I swear there’s nothing a little white paint can’t fix. I’m a firm believer in that! Over the years I’ve also just become a lot less stressed about making sure that every piece of white anything in our house is clean to perfection. We live in our home, fully. It will never be spotless. It will never be perfect. But it will be us, and to me that’s the most important!
I hope this was a helpful post to those of you that love the “all white everything” style like me! To me white is classic, timeless and truly the most versatile colors of them all. Thank you all for stopping by today and let me know if this was helpful for you!
