I will admit I was a little insistent on a few “must-haves” when we were building our home. One of the items on my wish list was a big ‘ole wrap around front porch. You know, the kind you see on old authentic farmhouses with porch swings and sweet tea. That thought gives me ALL of the feels…. ๐ญโบ๏ธ
Once we picked our floor plan we were able to incorporate a wrap around front porch since our house is pretty simple in shape (two story, basic rectangular structure). I wish so giddy since this has been my dream for so many years. Once we had our front porch added I really wanted to have a little space to water and care for plants and flowers. We have a perfect little nook for a potting bench on the small part of the “L” that makes up our front porch. We had a spigot placed on this little wall so that I could have a direct water source for my future potting bench.
This summer I found this gem at an antique/artisan show near my hometown. It was a match made in front porch heaven ๐ This potting bench was handmade by a local farmer using old reclaimed barn mood and an antique beadboard door (hinges still attached…..be still my heart) It even has a little shelf at the top that I keep my potting gloves and tools on. It’s just what I had imagined if not better.
I really think this little cutie adds so much rustic charm to our brand new house. I love adding old elements to the inside and outside of our home to make it feel a little more lived-in. This idea can be done anywhere on the exterior of your home so I thought it would be fun to share in case any of you guys get inspired to make your own little potting area. I even think this could be a fun DIY project if you are feeling up to it! It’s truly one of my favorite places to go after a long work day. Nature for the win.
