I’m all about finding work-arounds when it comes to home decor. Why spend a ton of money when you don’t have to? I came up with a little hack this past weekend when I decided to spruce up our bedroom a bit for Christmas. I figured today, I’d share a few tips on how to make your Christmas tree look taller.

You see, before building our home, Eli & I lived in an apartment for three years. During that time I bought this 5 ft flocked tree from King of Christmas. I love the quality of it and how the flocking adds a fun winter touch to any space. The problem? The ceilings in our apartment were much lower than our house ceilings of 9 ft. The tree looks pretty short in comparison to our ceilings when it’s sitting on the ground.

My solution? Find an antique basket to stick it in and give it some height. I’ve had this basket for quite some time now and since the top of it is pretty narrow, I was able to plop my tree down into it. In the bottom of the basket, I place quite a few pillows and blankets that I wasn’t using (because who doesn’t have more than a few handy at all times?) to secure the tree base in the basket without worrying it will tilt or fall over.

This tip could be used in any type of basket that’s large enough! You could prop your tree up in the basket using books or even boxes. Hiding books/boxes would be easy by simply throwing a blanket over top.

Another idea? Use a large crate to make you tree seem taller. Anything that is wide enough to hold your tree up will work. I’ve even seen people use tree collars around their tree and propping the tree up with some books or boxes inside of the collar. No one will know the difference!

These tree-lifting ideas aren’t just for visual appearance but also for saving money. If you have a tree that you wish was a bit taller, use some of these ideas instead of buying a new tree. Ever notice how the taller the tree is the more expensive it is? Save yourself some money by purchasing a smaller tree and propping it up using one of these tips. Budget friendly seasonal decor is the best.

I hope this gives you an idea of how you can be budget friendly this Christmas season. If you’re looking for a new Christmas tree, head to this blog post where I share a list of my favorites!

How about using a stand and cover it with a round cloth as a base
Love that idea also!
