Master Bathroom Vanity Mirrors

Yep, you are seeing this correctly. I used black paint this weekend! We all know I am a believer that white paint can fix most anything but I moved away from my comfort zone and realized that black paint does wonders, too Finding mirrors for this bathroom has been quite the pickle. Originally, I thought maybe I would be able to find a big ole antique mirror or two matching ones that I could use here. I looked high and low and months later I was still stumped. Temporarily we were using a teeny tiny mirror in our bathroom to get ready and it just wasn’t working any more… It was almost impossible to find an antique mirror big enough or two matching mirrors so I think buying new ones was really my only option.I love the look of two matching mirrors above a double vanity so I decided to go that route. I wanted to keep this room romanic yet masculine and hints of black throughout. A few weeks ago, I ran into these adorable matching mirrors that I fell in love with right away. Homegoods, y’all…$25! The shape had me all google-y eyed from the jump. The only hold up? They were baby pink. Super cute for a little girls’ room or maybe a shabby-chic style but that wasn’t fitting for this space.
I originally thought to paint these beauties white and distress them a bit (like most everything in our home). I went ahead with that tactic and decided that since our walls in that room are so light in color, there wasn’t enough of a “pop” or contrast between the walls and the mirror. Back to the drawing board. On my weekly (maybe more frequent but shhh! ) Target run I found this black metal spray paint and thought it would be fun to see how it turned out on these mirrors since our faucet/knobs in our bathroom are black as well. While I was there, I scooped up the top coat from the same brand. I used the “Devine Color by Valspar Radiant Metals” in black and the “Clear Sealer” topcoat. Super affordable and I only needed one can of each for both mirrors.After two coats on each mirror and a top coat to seal I ended up using a piece of 120 grit sand paper to distress a few of the corners. This really gave it that “antique” vibe that I was going for and I am really impressed with this metal paint! You can hardly tell the difference between the mirrors and our faucet. It reflects about the same amount of light, not too glossy and not too matte. Just right.  I added a few antiques to the vanity to dress it up a bit. I had these antique hand mirrors that I LOVE. I have been waiting to display them in some way because of how beautiful they are. I placed some dried flowers and q-tips in vintage jars and put some of our black & white wedding photos on the back of an old antique stand mirror (I turned it around so the “mirror” part is facing the wall). To be cohesive with the floating shelf on the wall above our toilet (here), I displayed an antique love letter using a flower frog. The details are my favorite I think I love this, guys. It is still taking time for this room to adjust for me since it is so different from what I am used to but it has grown on me. A little romantic and a little masculine.
