I am definitely no Martha Stewart, but I do love hosting get-togethers at our home SO much. Ever since we moved into our home, I have been itching to host little brunches or parties since it was almost impossible to do so at our apartment. Hosting baby sprinkles, birthday brunches or anything in between allows me to not only share the love with the people around me but also to use some of my creativity in the process.
Now let’s get this straight…these little get-togethers are rarely fancy (in the least) but I use them as a reason to decorate for that day/evening and to make my loved ones feel special. And that’s my JAM.With fall approaching, I wanted to create a fun little table setting that was neutral in color, earthy and full of texture. I am obsessed with how this turned out because it is so simple yet makes such a fun statement. I have a few tips and tricks that I use to create a table setting and I thought it would be a good idea to share with you guys! You can apply these ideas to a table setting for any season not just Fall in particular.
- Start with a neutral base. I picked this one up at Home Goods but have seen similar ones literally, everywhere! I really loved the little frayed edges. To me, this gives off a more relaxed look than if this had straight edges
- Use at least one wood/jute layer. I used this round white-washed piece that I also found at Home Goods. This layer is key in any place setting because it brings the most texture. If I took this layer out, it would be a little too many layers of “soft material” and this helps break that up!
- Pick one or two colors to play off of. I picked this burnt orange color because it just screams, “Fall!” to me. See how I added one layer (the leaf placemat) that was the bold piece and played off of that with the striped napkin? The white in the napkin compliments the white plate and the white-washed charger.
- Top with a neutral color plate/bowl as not to distract from the fun colors and textures going on above and beneath it. I picked this white salad plate (from Target) since it has the scalloped edges. I like how this brings a little “pretty” to this super rustic setting.
- Add some natural elements. Ok this is the fun part! I added a few pieces of eucalyptus and twigs to the top of the striped napkin and tied it with a little ribbon that I had laying around. You can really get creative in this step! I even like doing a little something different at each table setting so that it isn’t all “matchy-matchy”
You can apply these layering tips to a place setting for any season or occasion. Since our home is pretty neutral, it’s places like these that I love to add in unexpected pops of color! I hope this is helpful if you are hosting a get-together and want to make your guests feel right at home. Thank you for stopping by the blog and be sure to share your table settings with me! I am excited to see what you all create using these tips
