If you follow me over on Instagram, you know that I struggled with some pretty bad breakouts a few months back. It was horrible. I couldn’t quite pin down what was causing this acne since it basically came out of nowhere and didn’t seem to be slowing down.
At first, I thought these breakouts were hormonal but when they kept popping up over the span of 6 weeks…I knew something was off. I had one of those lightbulb moments and remembered that at about the same time that these breakouts came was when I started taking the Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin & Nail gummy supplement.
This product is packed-full of biotin…..833% of the recommended daily value. Crazy right!? I did a bit of research and found out that an excess of biotin in your system can actually over-produce oil and cause breakouts. Ah-ha! This was the culprit. This definitely isn’t the case for everyone as I have lots of friends that take these types of supplements with no issues. Just sharing personal experiences here!
I stopped taking these and within four days, my acne was completely cleared up. My mind was blown. At least I could put a name to this acne-ridden face! This was my first time trying this particular supplement and clearly my skin didn’t like it. I picked it up in a hurried-decision because I ran out of the brand that I’ve used for years (with no issues) and can only order it online. Lesson learned: Order the supplements you know & love in advance so you’re not in a scramble.
Prior to Nature’s Bounty, I took this supplement by Phyto. The Phyto brand is a bit more expensive and can only be ordered online (that I’ve seen). Since this incident, I’ve gone back to Phyto because it really does wonders for my hair, skin & nails without breaking me out like a teenager. Hallelujah!
Another product that has really worked amazingly for me is this Matcha Green Tea Collagen powder from Amazon. This is my coffee replacement on the weekdays (hey…I can’t just cut out coffee completely) and I’m obsessed. I mix a scoop of this with some hot water in the morning and a little sugar. I love the taste! Matcha is definitely not for everyone, so be sure to taste test somewhere local before buying this whole jar.
The combo of the collagen in the green tea and the Phyto supplement have been amazing for me, personally. My hair is shiner. My nails are stronger. My skin is no longer breaking out. Can I get an amen!?!
As always, these are my personal opinions and everyone’s body reacts in different ways to products. Thanks for allowing me to share what works for me and stopping by the blog today!

I had the same thing happen to me!! I was breaking out & then saw your stories so I stopped taking the. Within a few days it all went away! Crazy.
I was just about to buy the Phyto supplements, when I saw they contain gluten. Unfortunately, I have Celiac’s disease & can’t have anything that contains gluten. WAH. I’ll keep looking. Thank you for sharing this info with us!
