Have you seen this trend recently in home decor?! Layered doormats are all over Instagram, magazines and Pinterest and I’m such a fan. I love how it adds a bit of interest to a typically boring spot to decorate. I thought it would be fun to put together a blog post sharing my simple recipe for layering doormats and sharing some of my favorites to achieve this look for yourself!
I’ve tried this a couple of different ways but I love the combo of a super simple solid mat under a pattern or striped option. The layering effect brings so much texture and coziness to an outdoor area and I love that you can use lots of combinations to make your front entryway unique to you!
Like I mentioned earlier, I like starting with a nice neutral base when it comes to layering rugs. I picked this woven option up last week and love how soft it is! This is the 3×5 option so it is nice and oversized for our entryway. I listed our new rug with other options that I think would work well for a “base rug” below:
Next up, the fun part! Add a fun element with stripes, florals, or geometric patterns to pop against the neutral base. I shared this striped rug last week (here) when I showed our porch swing area and I obviously wanted to share it again today. We have matching rugs (in different sizes) on our front porch and the one we have by our front door is a 2×3. I love that this is just a bit bigger than a typical door mat but still smaller than the base rug. I added lots of fun options below for you guys!
I had lots of fun gathering these options for layered doormats! I hope this was helpful. Be sure to check the sizes of the rugs that you order to be sure that the base is a bit bigger than the top rug. It’s fun to switch it up and have a few to swap out with the changing seasons! Be sure to share photos if you try this at your house. I’d love to see photos! Thanks for checking out the blog today

I was wondering about your front door. I am looking for an inexpensive farm house look.

Hi Amy,
I’m unsure where our front door is from. It came with our home when we built it (modular build) & I’m not positive on the brand. Sorry that I couldn’t be of more help!
