There have been SO many decisions in this whole “building” thing. While luckily this stuff is my cup of tea…it can still be totally overwhelming. I had a really hard time deciding on flooring for our main level. We knew we wanted to go with some type of hardwood flooring since this is the floor with our kitchen, living room, dining room etc. These will be the areas that we spend most of our time in so I wanted to make sure we picked something practical. Being in our mid-twenties, real hardwoods were just way out of our price range. Maybe one day that will be an option for us but right now is just not that time.
We started looking at some laminate (wide plank Pergo laminate flooring, to be exact) and I was amazed how much this stuff looks like the real deal. You can hardly tell any difference and it’s half. the. price. Oh! and did I mention it is basically the most durable type of flooring you can get? No scratches or maintenance. Now that’s the type of stuff that I can get behind!
Now, to pick a color. This was the super hard part. My Pinterest boards are full of inspiration photos that reflect that super light raw flooring, as well as the ultra-dark wood. And I LOVE both. They are both so crisp and clean. While I loved the look of them, I also realized that Eli and I are just not the type of people that keep our house clean enough for those options. We live in our spaces fully and want pets/babies. They just weren’t feasible for us long-term.
I wanted something that already looked a little rough-around-the-edges so that if it does get scratched, who cares? Also, I am steering clear from too many “trend” options in this house, especially for the big purchases. I would hate to have something so out of style in a few years and feel like I have something that has already outgrown its time.
We went with Pergo Amber Chestnut, which is a warm medium color and a wider planking. They were super easy to install and only took a few evenings to complete our entire first floor. Eli suggests getting knee-pads though! Although he refused to buy them at first….men 😉 I will keep you guys posted and hopefully do a full review on our wide plank Pergo Amber Chestnut laminate flooring in the next few months after we have lived on them for a while. UPDATE: Here is a one year review on this flooring ! So far, we loved how easy they were to install and how much they look like real hardwood floors for much less money. Double win!

I love your floors!! This my sound like a crazy question, but how quiet are your floors when you walk on them? Does it have that tappy sound when you walk on them with your shoes on?
sarah jane says
Thank you Mindy!!! Ours are pretty quiet. We did use the recommended padding underneath so I think that helped with the sound a bunch 🙂
StephanieWhite says
Was the recommended padding the Pergo gold premium underlayment? That’s what Lowes recommended to us. But it’s different than underlayments I have used in the past would love to know which one you used.
Brittany says
Do you happen to remember if you chose the wet-protect version for your pergo flooring?! Beautiful choice of floors & would love to know how they’re holding up thus far!
sarah jane says
I believe we did! Our flooring is holding up very well. We haven’t had any complaints! I hope this helps

What is the name of the company you used for your flooring it’s beautiful I just love it. I have been looking for a color for my house and I picked fawn chestnut by Mohawk. I was looking on Pinterest to see what it would look like and your post popped up. I really like your color better them mine. They are so similar but yours just looks smoother in the rustic wood look. Can you help if you don’t mind? Thanks
sarah jane says
Sure, Kristy! We went with Pergo Laminate in “Amber Chesnut”. We purchased through Lowe’s and installed ourselves 🙂 Hope this helps!

I haven’t yet. I can definitely work on that if that would be helpful for you!

Hi Sarah! Great floor color selection – I love it. I’m remodeling an old Swiss Chalet and think this floor will look incredible. When I visit the Lowe’s website and pull up the Pergo Amber Chestnut flooring, the color seems different that your photos in this post. Did you find that the color of what Lowe’s shows online is a good representation of the actual floors? Thanks!

Sarah,
Love the color choice.
My wife and I are strongly considering this exact pergo flooring for our entire home. Would it be possible for you to post additional pictures of the flooring? There a few pictures to be found on the internet of this color choice.
Thanks!

Do you have more photos of this flooring with a wider perspective, such as an entire room? I love how the color looks, but when I saw it in the store it looked darker and more orangish… Also, is it textured at all?
sarah jane says
Hi Susan! I just posted a new blog post here: https://sarahjaneinteriors.blog/pergo-flooring-faqs-a-one-year-review/ that shares more photos of the flooring with no editing. It is slightly textured. I hope that helps in your decision making!

Thanks for sharing these cleaning tips. Laminate flooring is also easier to clean. , it is more durable and resists scratches, moisture, and wear and tear.
sarah jane says
I agree! We haven’t had any issues with wear/tear on our flooring. Love these Pergo laminate floors!

How did these hold up? How long have you had them?

Hello – I am curious- your original post about your floor said it was Amber Chestnut from Pergo. Your update says it was Rustic Amber Chestnut. I have been eyeing the Amber Chestnut ones for awhile now….but the rustic ones look much “busier”. Just hoping you can clarify … it’s a big decision and I’m so afraid to make it!
sarah jane says
Hi! So sorry for the confusion – the flooring we have is the “Amber Chestnut” (not rustic). I hope that helps in your decision making!
Laura Almandrez says
Hi I just love your floors! I have been searching for this exact name, however Lowes only shows rustic amber chestnut. I’m not sure if the name had changed or they discontinued amber chestnut?
sarah jane says
I’m not positive on that but I believe there is a difference between the two. This may be something worth emailing Pergo for directly. Their customer service has been great to work with in the past!

sarah jane says
I got it from Pier One a few years ago!
Deb says
They look beautiful. Is your home a concrete slab, crawl space or basement? My major concern is the sound. I don’t like that hollow ore how’s I call it when you walk with hard soled or heels on. Do you have any feedback on that or 5-6 years later?
sarah jane says
We have a basement (which is currently unfinished). We’d love to finish it one day. The underlayment padding under the pergo flooring really helps to minimize that sound you are worried about. We haven’t had any issues with the sound of the flooring with the padding installed. Worth the investment!
THERESA MONTANO says
What’s the process in putting in a ORDER for flooring ??
